Shaker Card tutorial

I am gonna teach you guys how to make a shaker card, and you can make them for your friends and family without having to buy ready-made cards. By making on your own, you are adding a part of yourself to it and as a result, it will be special because you make it =)

Please feel free to use these instructions to make your shaker card. You are free to link to this page from any forum/website if you wish. Do note that I'm not claiming that I have invent the shaker card, but these simple step-by-step instructions and the photos are mine.

So please do NOT copy this information and/or photos to use for your own classes/forums/webpages without my permission.

First, get any colored cardstock and cut to any desired size you want.
Remember to take the size into considerations, like how much space you want for the window, etc.

Here, I have selected a pink cardstock and cut to the size I want.

Next, fold it into half.

Get any coloured, backing paper or wrapper.
You can also choose to colour or decorate if you don't wish to use backing paper.
But trust me... patterned paper is so much nicer =)

For this case, I use a wrapping paper.

Turn the paper to the other side .
Use glue to paste the cardstock onto the paper itself.
Then cut out the shape (follow the cardstock size).

Measure and see how big you want to cut out a window.
Here's my own sliding mount:

So far so good!

Next, get a clear plastic.
You can even use the plastic packaging when you buy those comestics. beads, etc.

I use these kinds. It save money that way without having to buy those plastic wrapper.

Cut the size slightly bigger than your window and use scotch tape to tape it onto the other side of the sliding mount.

Like this:

You can choose to decorate your window frame.

For my case, I ink the edges of the frame. I just like the inking effect. =)

Next, you can choose to paste anything you want, to show in the window itself.
Or you can choose not to.
Just put beads, emblishments  or glitter...up to you.

But I decided to put the "Happy Birthday" in.
Like this:

Then get foam tape and tape around the window.
MAKE SURE there's isn't any gap in between them:

Then using your craft knife, cut the sliding mount in the center:

Pour anything you want onto the part where the window is.

I pour glass seeds:

Don't pour too much, or else you wont be able to shake it.
And also, too little will be a little boring.

Ahhh...this is about right!

Next, to allow easier pasting, since I have the words "Happy Birthday" on the other side, it will be hard for me to adjust if I take out the whole foam tape cover.

So I did this:

Then I paste the other side of sliding mount onto it and adjust.
Be sure to check whether the front is right.
Hold firmly as you lift it up to see the front, or else the beads may dropped out since you haven't stick firmly yet.

Once you are satisfied with the placement, remove the tape cover.

Tadah!

You are done!

Now... paste this onto your card and start decorating it!

Here's 2 examples I did:
