Swivel Card Tutorial

Want to learn how to make a card that can turn 180 degrees in the middle??

I am gonna teach you guys how to do it, and you can make them for your friends and family without having to buy ready-made cards. By making on your own, you are adding a part of yourself to it and as a result, it will be special because you make it =)

Please feel free to use these instructions to make your swivel card. You are free to link to this page from any forum/website if you wish. Do note that I'm not claiming that I have invent the swivel card, but these simple step-by-step instructions and the photos are mine.

So please do NOT copy this information and/or photos to use for your own classes/forums/webpages without my permission.

Please click on the pictures to get a better view

First, get a cardstock of your desired color. I  usually will get a cardstock that has a silvery kind of colour instead of a plain cardstock as it will be easier to design and decorate the card. Patterned card stock is also recommended.

And it is good to get a self healing cutting mat. Save the trouble of having to measure by yourself. If you don't have one, get a thick newspaper underneath your cardstock and make careful when cutting your card.

Dotted lines: Fold along the line
Clear lines: Cut along the line

Measurements can vary to your own desire on how big you want. I mostly used that measurements shown in the picture for my cards.

Draw out the template using a very light pencil:

a B pencil is recommended as it is soft. HB pencil is also acceptable but make sure you dun apply much pressure to it.

Then cut the lines according to the template shown above:

For this, I used a craft knife. If you do not have it, penknife will do. But cutting out shapes, craft knife will be strongly recommended.

Fold along the dotted lines. Now, take note that both of the dotted lines are to be folded in opposite direction.  NOT IN SAME DIRECTION.

Like this:

Then turn the card over to fold other side in opposite direction.

You will get this:

Now you can make your own card by adding your own design! =)

My own design:

Materials used:
White shimmering cardstock
Pink flower paper
dark pink , purple and white foam paper
glitter glue
Foam tape
Sticky tape
craft glue
yarn
safety pin
glittery hot pink paper
Creative Memories construction paper
Silver wire
black and red Horse ink pad

The drawings is done by myself from reference pictures using 03 Pilot drawing pen.
Colour using faber-castell water-soluable color pencils.

Sneak peek:

The flowers is made by myself.
Just cut out the shape using foam paper and then sitched the border:

You can even make the middle into a different shape other than a rectangle.

This card is done on the theme, autumn leaves. which I done for my friend who order for her colleague.

Another design which I experimented :

It is the same format as the first one but in different design. The middle which is empty is for personalized message.

Seems fun right?
