nic My "ALS cold water challange"
Very recently, I got some push back and had unintentionally offended a few as to why I've untagged myself and have deleted videos off of my newsfeed. My name is Nic and I've been nominated to partake in the "cold water challenge" to raise awareness for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS which is also commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. I accept the challenge to raise awareness. Although I am not going to find some creative, crafty and funny way and dump a bucket of ice and water over my head, I will however, do what I can to make you all aware of ALS. Let me start, by sharing that this relatively rare disease; the incidence is roughly 2 people per 100,000 per year. ALS occurs throughout the world with no obvious racial, ethnic or socioeconomic boundaries. Although there isn't a cure for this disease, there is a FDA approved drug that extends survival of the diagnosed. There are medications to relieve muscle pain, therapy to maintain mobility and even... (more)
pixiesmagic Friday evening
Friday came in like a fury; calmed and then ran aground for a few hours today! Sunshine spilled across a forgiving landscape; recent rains giving a wide berth to the southern coastline; and at long last we had a fine day! Good evening (she said) I am very pleased to be here once more and saying hi. A fair day with an outing; I was able to enjoy getting out for a while today. The air was fresh and the trees were glinting in faded sunlight as yet the season unchanging even though Spring is only days away!
Once in the shopping centre; I was immediately surrounded by a great buzzing crowd; where had all these people come from, I asked myself. It is not the holidays (childrens school hols aren't due until September) so I couldn't for the life of me get what had generated such crowds. I guess you could say I was surprised; certainly it took much longer to find a vacant seat in the food court; but eventually I found one and made myself comfortable. Coffee and a spinach and ricota... (more)

dreams A Tale of Two Personaliti es
Middle of the night: For some reason, I was in my parents' bedroom with a girl I loved. We were rolling around, laughing, and I accidentally pushed her off the bed. I managed to roll myself underneath her as she was falling and catch her on top of me when we hit the ground. Then I tossed her back up onto the bed and she was clearly impressed by my strength. I got back on the bed, and from my view she was upside down. I started kissing her neck. I heard my dad yell something from outside the bedroom, but I don't remember what. It might have only been my name.
When I was taking up: I was going out with a girl but wasn't paying any attention to her. She was upset with me, went to the grocery store while I ignored her. I decided to go look for her, then woke up.
#1: Another lovely girl in another love-y situation. Wonder what's been on my mind lately...
#2: The flip side of my personality; the more likely story.
Interesting that I heard my father's voice so vividly.
The Common Ills Iraq snapshot
Thursday, August 28, 2014. Chaos and violence continue, Barack speaks
about Iraq, we note Chris Hill's continued stupidity as he continues to
lie about Iraq, over 800 civilians in Falluja have been killed from
Nouri al-Maliki's bombings, and much more.
Today on a KPFA newsbreak, Mark Mericle noted:
Oakland Congresswoman Barbara Lee is one of three lawmakers who have
sent a letter to Republican House Speaker John Boehner calling for a
debate and a vote on an authorization for the use of military force in
Iraq when the House of Representatives returns on September 8th. In a
statement, Lee says that it's clear that the current US mission in Iraq
is extended beyond the limited, specific and targeted scope of
preventing genocide and ensuring the security of US personnel there.
Lee said the president must seek Congressional authorization before the
situation escalates further. She was joined by Democrat Jim McGovern
